Reciprocity Policies

Reciprocity Policies
To qualify for reciprocity one must:

  • Hold a current cosmetologist, manicurist, esthetician and/or teacher license in the United States.
  • Be in good standing with no disciplinary actions against your license.
  • Have taken either a state board approved or national examination, in the United States, to obtain your license OR held your license for more than one year.

To prove that the above requirements are met, a certification letter is required from the licensing state board.

If the license is expired and/or either the licensee has not held the license for more than a year or taken an exam to obtain the license, then the applicant is mailed the exam application and must pass the written and practical exams to qualify for the NC license.

A copy of the current cosmetic art license must be received along with the Reciprocity Application.

Applicants licensed in the following Canadian Provinces qualify for out-of-state reciprocity licensing: Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.
