Callus Shavers: Prohibited in NC SalonsIn cooperation with the NC Board of Podiatry Examiners the Board of Cosmetic Art prohibits callus shavers, a razor device used to cut dead skin away from the foot or heel. Manicurists and cosmetologists are licensed to perform pedicures, but the cutting of soft tissue and debriding of calluses is defined as the practice of podiatry according to NCGS 90-202.2b and 21 NCAC 52.1401.
Callus shavers have been prohibited in North Carolina for both use and posession in a Cosmetic Art salon since December 1, 2004. Any salon found to have callus shavers recieves a civil penalty. | ||
